1998 Volvo V70xc Turbo Replacement
hi tech. i am just waiting for the pcv kit now, but have probably read too much about this issue for my own good. im getting ready to do a compression test on this thing as well.
my question is i have read about bad valves/and or rings causing oil in the tail pipe (AND white smoke which is happening with my car) and i wonder if this is something i should look into and how i can diagnose it. also whether either of these something i should attempt.
i seem to have lots of different problems going on at once. i'm also pretty sure i have a leak at the turbo oil line.
thanks,
liam

If it is valves or rings then it will show up on the compression test.
I myself doubt it is rings I have had heads off of cars with 150k rough miles and the cylinders and rings looked like new.

Okay Tech, I did the compression test this afternoon and below are the results (i am calling the cylinder furthest from the distributor #1). The first number is dry, the second is with a a little oil in each.
1 -- 190, 220
2 -- 210, 220
3 -- 210, 220
4 -- 210, 215
5 -- 210, 215
Can you please advise what these results indicate to you given all the other symptoms?
Thanks very much,
Liam

hi tech.
well i put everything back together with the new pcv system pieces and started it up. in the driveway with light revving it seemed to smoke less than before which was encouraging, but when i took it around the block and opened it up (where i think the turbo might have kicked in but not sure), it started to smoke the same as it had before the pcv.
any suggestions?
thanks

is there a way or method to verify whether the turbo is working or not? i have never driven this car without it's current problems and cant really tell if it's working just be driving it (though it is quite zippy).
thanks

thanks tech. do you have any diagrams or a step by step you could point me to to figure out the lines associated with the turbo? i am having trouble figuring out the functions of all the lines going in/out.
thanks
