Cool 1999 V70 2.5 20v Auto Wagon

Hi everybody,

I've been the owner of this station wagon for a couple of years now and have just decided to try and get it back to reasonable (sellable) condition.

The ECU died last year as a result the car drives fine for the odd occasion however the ABS, Fuel, Engine, Speedometer etc will intermittently fail.

I have found some ECU's for sale a lot cheaper than what my mechanic quoted me ($800 AUD) via E-Bay and have no problem changing parts over myself.

My questions are;

What ECU's are compatible?

If using an older ECU will some features introduced in the 99 model not work?

If an older model ECU will I need to take it to a Volvo dealership and have the firmware upgraded?

Thanks!

Tim

Default ABS controller?

Hello, "The ECU died last year as a result the car drives fine for the odd occasion however the ABS, Fuel, Engine, Speedometer etc will intermittently fail." That's quite a sentence! For all the reading of these boards I do I can't say that ECU failures are at all common. Your symptoms are characteristic of a failing ABS controller. Do a search on ABS failures and read the posts. They'll all sound like your description. 4 E5 torx bolts on the bottom side of the controller hold it in place. It just drops down. You can still drive the car with the controller removed-you just won't have ABS. I'd wrap some plastic around the unit to keep out dirt. You can poke around looking for broken solder joints or send it off to the fellow who's name you'll see often when you do your search. The ABS controller doing this is so common there are auto electric shops which stock rebuilds. Kira
