1999 V70 xc throttle body question
Hi,
I am going to purchase a 1999 V70 xc on monday. The car is about a four hour drive from where I live. The guy that I am buying it from says that there is a light on indicating that the throttle box needs to be replaced. It hasn't effected the driving yet but apparently its just a matter of time. My question is can I drive the car back home without doing any damage to it. I was planning on towing it but my trucks transmission started acting up today. Do you think the volvo will make it back without any problems? I also understand that this is a common issue with these cars and that volvo says they will cover it up to 10yrs or 200,000 miles. The car is over ten years old but under the 200k mark, do you think they will help me out? I am new to this forum and look forward to sharing my future volvo experience with all of you. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
David

The drive should be fine. Symptoms will include a rough idle and possible surging when decelerating. There is good info here on Throttle Body R/R. The warranty may have already covered the installed unit. You will need to remove the unit to verify. A good cleaning goes a long way. Take your time, remove the radiator fans for extra room and plan to spend a few hours under the hood. Good luck.
