2000 V70 XC Key Fob
My wife's 2000 V70 XC key fob just disintegrated last week. The remote still functions properly, but the plastic shell its in is in more than the 2 pieces it should normally be. Before gluing it, I wanted to see if anyone had a source for these key fobs that I could just take the guts of ours and place it into the replacement shell.
As a secondary question, since we bought this car used we got only 1 key fob, along with 2 door lock keys, plus 1 ignition key (3 keys in all). It seems odd that Volvo would have multiple keys to unlock vs start the vehicle, so do I have 1 correctly programmed key (the one that starts the car) and 2 incorrectly programmed ones (the ones that'll only open the door)? Or, does Volvo indeed have 2 separate keys? Subsequent to that question, what trouble (and expense) is it to get a second key fob (assuming that the door keys we have should also start the car)?
Any advice appreciated!

Hi Steveo, I'm in New Zealand (driving 2005 XC70) and have a similar situation. I only got a remote fob thing, and the key part was always protruding as the latching system to hold the key folded in is busted. I got a programmable 'mechanical' key so at least we had two keys; dealers want drug money for that. However, the drama of having to unlock the drivers door, to trip the tailgate and other doors is wearing thin. Trying to source an aftermarket shell from the auto tech industry, but no luck so far. Like you I need a shell so I can just re-install chip, key & battery etc into new shell. New shell from dealer including coding is $1100 NZ **! Volvo obviously forgot who their target market is; I missed the bit about being a foreign exchange dealer in order to own one of these. I've yet to check if dealer will sell me just a shell - keep you posted of any success.
