Hello, Our Volvo v70 non turbo fwd with 172,000km went into a Volvo dealer to have the timing belt changed. Two days after that, the oil light would intermittently flicker on and off. The dealer suggested an engine flush, which we did. It did not solve the problem. We were then advised that an oil pan service would eliminate the problem, which we did. The oil light still comes on and off and it is now showing an engine code P1672. I believe the dealer does not know what the actual problem is and is merely experimenting, hoping to find a cure. Please help

 

I would change the dealer; they are not very knowledgeable and are trying to rip you off. This is not uncommon if a customer does not know much about cars.

Did the oil indicator ever come on prior to the timing belt change? If not, the dealer may have screwed up something with the oil pump. I am not privy to V70s, but in the case of 850, the oil pump is behind the crank pulley.

I would suspect a faulty oil pressure switch/sensor. Ask Tech or find another dealer, or better yet, find an independent shop specialising in Euro makes and ask their ASE Master Tech to diagnose the trouble.
