2001 Subwoofer Installation Question
I'm going to be installing a small subwoofer in the back of my wagon and was wondering if I could get an audio signal off of the D pillar speakers or if I'd have to grab it from somewhere else. The sub will have its own amp so power isn't an issue I'm just curious if the D pillar speakers carry a usable bass signal.
My car didn't come with a factory sub, just the 3rd row seat, so I don't believe the harness would be there for just tying directly in to. If there's a lead for it further up the line though please let me know.
Thanks.

i would rather it be off the door speakers, which could be taken from behind the radio, unless of course the D piller speakers do get a full range of audio signal. Be sure your amp has a low pass crossover built in other wise you will need an external crossover. Also many pull the amp turn on signal from a switched ignition wire.
Since the battery and those hookups are all in back I was just hoping to keep the wiring to back there, which is why I was wanting to pull signal off a D pillar speaker. I think they probably do carry the full signal, but of course when I splice in to them I'll find out for sure. Was just curious to know if anyone else had done such a thing.
My main concern is about the stereo signal back there. I believe it is on left and right channel, and I'd want the bass to be pretty uniform (If that makes sense)

I was digging around in back and found this harness.
I'm not entire certain what it's meant to hook up to but it looks like there might be some audio leads off of it. Perhaps this is part of what the factory subwoofer would plug in to?
If anyone has any idea about what this harness is for and if I could splice my amp in to it, the info would be very much appreciated.

I think, from reading other forums that it's gonna end up being a harness to hook up trailer lights. The sub harness would be on the other side. That one is located near the passenger side, but from the looks of it I'll still be able to use the leads there for my Amp, I'll just need to pull the audio signal from elsewhere. I'm hoping either the fat yellow red or blue on there will function as a "Turn On" wire, for the amp. I'll have to bust out the multimeter.
I just tried out a different speaker on one of the D pillars. A cheapo walmart 6x9 but it did move the woofer on there so It looks like the D pillars do carry a full signal, the output is just speaker limited since they're little 8 ohm tweeters. My amp should arrive next week sometime so I'll try splicing in there and see just what happens. Just have to find a place to hide the amp.
From what I could tell from the original installation instructions it uses some funky thing that already ties in to the D pillars somehow so I think I'll be find just hacking in there myself. If that doesn't work I'll just have to grab the signal from somewhere farther up.
