Unhappy 2001 T5 Geartronic shifter issues

My shifter is giving me a headache. Today when I put it in drive, it wanted to slop over to 'manual mode'. When in manual mode there is no resistance, just slop, when upshifting. There is still proper resistance when downshifting though.

I popped the top cover off to look inside and I see one spring that appears to be properly set but I can't see if another one is missing, and I didn't hear anything pop loose while driving. Any ideas?

Does anyone at least have a diagram of the geartronic shifter? Maybe I could see if something could cause this. I'll try to get a video up shortly showing what it's doing, maybe that will provide some insight.

I would think there should be at least two springs. One for the upshift and one for the downshift. Do you see anything laying around in there?

I can only see one, but I don't see any place for a second one "Left Side" to attach to. I searched around in there as best I could but I couldn't see anything that had come loose. I'll have to figure out how to take the whole console apart to see down in there any further.

Thanks for the Info. At just a glance I only saw the lower spring there so perhaps the upper did come loose. Just need to figure out how to pop that top part off.

Wish I had a diagram like that in my Vadis, didn't have anything though, blah!

Tech for the win!

P.s. could you scroll the list down a bit, so if I need to call up the dealer I can just give them part numbers to see if they can get em in for me.

The cover #6 pretty much just pulls up to remove. The top cover #4 will slide up if the **** is removed which just pulls off but be careful.
Here is the other shot.

Yep, it's definitely 16 that broke. There's a black and a yellow arm in there the yellow one is completely snapped off. I'm having trouble removing the assembly though so hopefully it pops loose soon, and hopefully the price on this isn't absurd cause it's a damned nightmare getting all of this apart =D

All fixed. The whole assembly was $10 with tax at the dealer. I can't imagine what they'd have wanted for labor on that one. Thanks again Tech. You truly are a wizard. Now if only I could track down that program you're pulling the diagrams from.

Glad all is well. The program I am using is called Vadis. If you are into downloading from a torrent site you can find it there.

Default Having same problem...

This is a great forum! I'm having the exact same problems as greenteagod and was just quoted $500 to fix it for parts and labor which is just outlandish. Is there a video anywhere of how to replace this? Or perhaps a text / website that walks you through it?

I've long since sold that car, due to other problems it was giving me. I didn't find any write up. But in pulling it apart it was fairly straight forward what you needed to put in to get it repaired.

It's just the parts outlined in that diagram for #16

Two weird plastic retainers with a couple of springs and a bolt going through it. The only thing I do recall was losing a torx bit somewhere in the mix =D
