Default 2001 v70 headlight problem

My healights do'nt work on low beam. High beam works, parking lights work. Have looked at the CEM and there does not seem to be any burning on the connectors. With the ignition swich in 1st position, turning the light switch I can hear the relay clicking on both parking lights and low beam (but obviously does'nt switch on the low beams on ignition 1 ). Turning the ignition to 2 the relay only clicks when turning switch to parking lights but not low beam. Does anyone know if this is a relay fault or had a similar problem. Thanks

I have exactly the same problem on my 2003 V70. What is the solution?

Have you checked all the fuses?

My fuses and bulbs are fine too. I switched the relays around and they are fine. There is no power to the headlamp fuses. The fault seems to be related to the CEM. I read on another forum that there is a "shunt" plugged into the CEM and this may be the source.

I have heard this to. They say that the lowest shunt on the CEM controls the headlights. This is the long black thin thing approx 3" in length. This just pulls out like a fuse. Which relays did you swap round to test them out?

I swapped around the relays (of same type as headlamp) under the bonnet (hood). All were working, i.e. the problem remained with the headlamps and no other new malfunction occured in other areas.

I have now fixed problem. It was the relay. Could not find the same relay under bonnet but managed to pick one up from breakers.
The problem I had initially was when I turned light switch to dipped headlight (position 2 with ignition on 2) I did not hear any clicking from relay so indicating faulty relay. Hope this helps.

The relay which controls the low beam is on the CEM which is under the dashboard drivers side (you will have to remove a small plastic panel to get to it). The relay is located just above the 3 thin long rectangular shunts. I was able to remove relay without having to detach the CEM, Look at this link which shows a picture of the relay with two shunts beneath it http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...?t=9910&page=2

Hello, I also would like to know where to find the relay.

My dipped lights don't work. They could be made to come on by turning the mainlights ON/OFF switch on and off a few times or operating the flasher.

Now they are off all the time

It is possible to get a used ECM from a Junker and extract the relay to put it on mine?
