Default 2002 ABS Issue

2002 V70 2.4T - Brake failure light, check engine light, speedo to 0, trip and odometer to ----, "limp home" mode, etc. ABS module, right? Called module repair places (including Victor) and the 2002 unit can't be fixed. My local Volvo dealer (I'm not in a big city) quoted me $750 for the module and "as a matter of fact, we have three in stock!" <----red flag. Anyway, I e-bayed a used one identical to the mine from Tom's Auto Parts. Put the thing in and no change. Nothing. I bought this car less than a year ago and have already replaced the transmission and had the 90k tuneup done. Granted, this car is really nice but I CANNOT afford this kind of upkeep. Where do I go from here with this module issue? Thanks in advance -

Welcome to the forum Ware1320

Make sure the system is totally bled. Do the brakes feel spongier or different than before?

Are you sure it's the same ABS module??same part number??
Maybe reset system, clear codes and try again.

Good luck

Not sure what you mean by bleeding the system - I only replaced the control module. The module I put in was exactly the same on all numbers. How do I reset the system and clear the codes? Thanks for the help.

What garantee is there that the replacement is 100% ?

Might find the same module in another breed of car, might be cheaper ?

This guy is worth a shot. Heck you have a spare one now.

I tried him. He told me that my module can't be fixed. The module I bought came with a warranty so if it's bad I not out any money. I guess I'll check e-bay - again. Any other suggestions?

Don't know. I work 2 miles from the house. Am I risking hurting the car by driving it in "limp home" mode for this short distance? It seems to drive ok with the exception of the slipping feel from a standstill. I assume this is just from starting in 3rd gear. Can I drive it until I get this sorted out? Thanks -

Sorry I can't answer that one.
They recon you can still drive the earlier models.

Maybe call volvo and ask them ?

I would suggest diagnosing the problem properly. Get the codes read out and go from there. It sounds like you may have more than an ABS ECU problem.

Guessing, although based on some decent amount of historical evidence about the ABS modules, always carries the risk of wasting time and money. As witnessed here.
