Default 2002 v70 T5 cabin filter

Maybe someone here could help me out since VADIS isn't clear and this isn't mentioned in the other thread related to cabin air filters.

Just purchased a 2002 V70 and it's time for 75K service. I plan on taking the bulk of this on myself. I removed the cabin air filter and it was pretty beat up. This is how it was in there, it didn't happen when I pulled it out. First, any tricks or tips on getting the new one in there without beating it up like this one was? Second, which end goes in first? I pulled mine out as oriented in the picture, with the larger plastic tab pointing up. Is this the correct orientation?

Forgot to mention. At this time should I also replace the sensor? VADIS has an entire filter kit they mention, but at $200 if it's not needed I won't do it.

I wonder if the old one was istalled upside down? There is a very distinctive form to the filter and how to correctly install. The picture looks pretty mangled so you may not be able to tell. I did mine over 6 months ago and don't remember the details, but replaced mine like it came out. Unfortuantely you do not have this option. Perhaps others can define the orientation for correct installation. Wish I could be of more help.

It should slide up in there very easy. Maybe it was the wrong way. But it will only fit one way.
