cabin filter(s?) 2002 V70
Hello All,
I have a 2002 V70 Turbo 2WD that I am getting ready to do the 90,000 maintenance on. When I went to the FCP Groton website, it calls out for the cabin filter in plain and charcoal, and the secondary ECC filter. My questions are this:
1) Plain or charcoal on the main cabin filter? I know where this one is located from the other posts.
2) Where is the ECC filter located? How do I get to it? Is it even necessary to change it?
Thank you in advance.

The cabin filter you need to know which one you have in there now. There is the 2 different types.
Not sure what they are talking about for the other filter.

Those two filters are one in the same. If your HVAC controls have Aut/Man option on the recirc button then you have ECC, and need the charcoal filter. If you only have a recirc on/off button then you need the regular filter. The button will be printed with Aut/Man.
Do some warm-up stretches before you replace it, I don't think I've bent my body that way in a while.

My apologies to you both. I wasn't completely clear. I can check to see which one I have now, not a problem. But the site calls out "2001-2007 Cabin Air Filter-Charcoal Activated", "2001-2007 Cabin air filter", and then 2001-2007 ECC Cabin air filter (secondary cabin air filter." I guess I can always call Groton or the dealer to clear this up. But I may be back after I find out what's up though. I was just hoping someone would say "Ah, you bonehead, it's this one right here." Thanks again.
I just did this. Here is the deal from my understanding and talking to people:
IF you have manual climate control, you only need the primary filter. The only difference between the charcoal filter and the normal one is the charcoal one removes odors from the cabin whereas the normal one does not. This is the only filter you need.
IF you have the automatic climate control, there is a secondary filter you must replace. I don't know much about it but I did some digging and found out.
Here is the filter I bought for my 01:

I ordered it from them. It fit in nicely but it is a pain to get to. Make sure you have torx bits that will fit into a socket wrench as the two rear screws that hold the cover on are in a tight space. I don't remember what size you need though.
I'm not sure if it will be any different for your Turbo as opposed to my non-turbo.

I'm now a bit confused. Are there 2 cabin filters required if you have theelectronic ECC? I replace the one found under the glove box with the carbon coated one I got from FCP Groton. The one I replaced was plain and not carbon coated and I do have the electronic ECC. I agree with Hummerguy, I think all the charcoal is for is to remove oders and is an upgrade to the standard one. So the final questions are: One or 2 filters, and if 2 filters, where is the 2nd (other than the one under the glove box)?

Ok, here's the poop from the dealer. There is only one cabin air filter in the car. The white one and the charcoal one are the same size, BUT the charcoal one is thicker for the IAEC, i forget, something about air quality management. The only way you can tell is if your "recirc" (recirculation) button has an arrow on it doing a 180 degree turn, it is the charcoal (thicker) style. Now I guess I need to call Groton to make sure I get the right one. I'll post anything new here. The one with charcoal may just fit and has been upgraded with charcoal to fit in the smaller space. Then the one they have labeled as the ECC fits the thicker filter. I will post back after I know.
You can upgrade to the thicker one if you want to. All you will have to do is remove a plastic piece then install the filter back one slot from where the smaller one is.
I just checked mine, and I have the"180-Turn" on the recirc switch, but had a plain filter when I removed for the last change. I'm the original owner, and up to the 90K service, I've had the dealer do all the work, but I have since taken over it all when I did the timing belt etc early at the 90K. This was when I replaced the cabin filter.I had thought the charcoal was just an upgrade, and I had no issue installing it. I'm guessing the dealer put in the wrong one last time? I'll use the charcoal option from now on. Nice to know there is only one filter, so thanks 65 Mustang!

They ALL have the 180 turn symbol on them. The difference between ones with regular and ones with charcoal filters is whether or not you have the aut/man option on the recirc button. If it says Aut/Man then you have a charcoal, if it's just a plain recirc on/off button then you ave regular. You can use a charcoal filter in the regular ones if you remove part of the channel.
Checksix, your dealer put in the correct filter.
