Default 2004 V70R doesn't hold traction to the road

I have a V70R with manual transmission that includes the 3 settings to the suspension. Over the past 10K miles the car doesn't seem to hold its traction to the road when driving at highway speeds or on country roads where uneven pavement (filled potholes or just unavoidable cracks in the road) become an issue. As soon as a bump is felt, the suspension absorbs the road roughness, yet I feel as if the steering becomes loose and the car is slightly uncontrollable. Very awkward when a highway bypass or exit has been taken with uneven pavement as it feels loose enough to want to move to the outside of a turn. It didn't matter as to what suspension setting the car was set on, it would still act loosely on pavement with the road roughness.
I took the car up on a ramp to check the front and rear suspension and found no abnormalities or leaks. Could it possibly be an all-wheel drive issue? Has anyone come across something similar?
Thanks
