Default 2005 Volvo V70 stuck in park

Hello, I have a 2005 Volvo V70 automatic stuck in park. The car starts and everything, but it doesn't get out of park. I have tried rocking the car, holding the brake, restarting the car and nothing can get the damn thing out of park. This is a base model V70 so it does not have the M shifting. I have tried looking for a shift override button but it does not seem like there is one. Please advise.

After the car starts, turn the key back a little, not enough to turn the car off. Then see if it frees. You may have a bad shiftlock or brake switch.

I've tried that, but it still won't budge. All of brake lights are working, car starts, steering wheel turns perfectly, I just can't get it out of Park.

Hello all. I could have written the post above except that mine is an 06 v70
The garage up the street had it for a week and half....it wouldn't do if for them.
The first day I brought it home, it did it.
They wanted to replace the solenoid in the system for good measure and a place to start.
I think it might be shift lock.

Help? Thoughts, discussion?
I would hate to junk the car in liu of thousands in bad diagnostic and unnecessary repair

To get the shifter out of park - take the lower side panel off the console on the drivers side. (1/4 turn on that arrowed plastic screw) Find the small black cable that goes from the steering column lock to the shifter. Move the "spool" (circled in red on the illustration) out of the "fork" holding it. Just push the spool up. If you move the cable forward after that (or backward, don't remember) that will release the shifter, as long as the key is on, your foot is on the brake and the shift release solenoid still works. You can feel the shift release solenoid click in the shifter to make sure it is working. Turn key on, gently depress brake pedal - you should be able to feel a click in the shifter when ever the solenoid works.

I was in the process of replacing a broken button on the shifter. I pulled the shifter off but now can’t activate the shift mechanism with the linkage rod. When I push it down it’s solid- there’s no depression, so the shifter is stuck. The white lever lock mechanism works as I see it lift up when I turn on the car and hear a click when I depress the brake. Any help much appreciated. I feel like I can’t buy a new shifter until I can prove that this is actually going to work.
