2006 V7 wagon, non-turbo 5 spd manual trans question
Hi, I have a 2006V70 wagon, 5 cylinder, with 5 speed manual transmission. The transmission shifts perfectly, except it won't go into reverse easily. It has to be finessed into reverse, and rarely will drop into reverse. Volvo does not sell any transmission parts, and local transmission shops can't fix it. It looks like I need a used transmission. My question is will a 5-speed manual transmission from a S40, same year fit my car? The interchange manual shows the non-turbo, wagon 5 speed transmission as unique to this car.
Any guidance will be much appreciated.

A few things - check out the Volvo wiki's to see if you can determine what model your transmission is (you may also be able to find a build plate on the unit) You're looking for something like M56, M58 etc. That will also tell you if parts are available for a rebuild since other manufacturers would have used that box.
Another thought is to do a search using car-part.com - which is a North American search engine for recycle yards. You can key in your year model and ask for all compatible years and models. I suspect the V70 would share parts with S60s and possibly the S40 Gen 2s.
