98 V70 cam seal replacement
Hi...first post! Been working on a recently acquired V70 (base model, no turbo) with 108000 miles. Timing belt was changed at 60K, so I'm leaning towards another belt change soon. Since I'll be in the engine already, I'd like to replace the cam seals. VADIS and Haynes say to use a cam locking tool. I've found other posts for the 850 that say the tool is uncessary, but I'm unsure about my V70. There probably isn't much of a difference between the engines in my 98 and a 97 850, but want to make sure before I potentially hose up the cam placement. Can anyone confirm the necessity of a cam locking tool and ways to work without it (if possible)? What year did VVT for the V70 come out? thanks
If you have VVT the front Cam pulley will not be like the other one.
It will be bulkier.
It will also have a T-50 torxes in the center of the pulley.
It will usually be the exhaust cam on turbo models. Intake cam on Non-turbo cars.
