Default 98 V70 T5 Coolant

All:
I changed the coolant in my 98 V70 T5 that has just over 40000 miles. Purchased the car about a month ago and going through all the fluid changes I can to satisfy my personal need to know that all this has been done 'recently'. I drained the block and radiator and replaced it with a 50/50 mix of extended life Prestone. My questions:

I used up about 1.25 gallons or 5L on the refill and expected to use closer to 2 Gallons. Does this seem right?

The fluid I removed had a very distinctive strong iced tea color. Did Volvo put DexCool in the car originally? OR is there something wrong? Smelled like antifreeze. I'm puzzled.

Hope someone can advise me on these matters.

Thanks,
Gino

No they didn't put Dexcool in them.
It will look like that when it is old and broken down.

Test drive it good and it should burp and take more.
