Default 99 Volvo v70 is it worth saving?

Hi guys I'm new to the forum but hope I can find some help here

Unfortunately I have a 99 v70 that has a long list of problems...

Both front wheel bearings need to be replaced as well as the struts. I'm guessing I'll have to do the springs and mounts as well with the struts. But now I have a bigger issue... The car is sluggish to start, there is a LOUD rattle and sometimes squealing sound. I have a short video that gives a idea of the general area and the startup sound. It sounds like it might be coming from the transmission

I am not well off and cannot afford a lot for a mechanic either, but can do a lot of mechanical stuff myself. I would be more than willing to do tests or take pics and video to help diagnose this problem. Or looking for advice to tell me if it's even worth trying to fix at this point... or if I should just sell it as is for the parts that work since there aren't any Volvo parts in the area....

Well turns out it may not be the transmission... possibly the starter? Battery is getting old as well, it dips very close to 10v when cranking over and will not start for a few seconds when turning over... was hoping to hear something from someone about this... any ideas are appreciated

Ok then... can I get advice for the wheel bearings then? There are a few different "styles" I was wondering if it makes much difference which one as they are all different prices from about 60 each to over 100 for the hub assembly.

I have no idea what that noise is, but it sounds terrible. I doubt it's the starter since the car is already running.

The bearings come as the whole hub assembly. Not sure what options you're seeing

It is interesting that it does not make that rattling sound when the starter motor is cranking. Could it be that the starter motor's bendix gear is not returning back to it's home position after starting? Can you get some idea were it is coming from? If you can find the starter, (I am not familiar with V70's) and place a screwdriver or a metal rod on the starter and place the other end on the flap over your ear, you can listen for the sound. If it turns out that it is the starter is the problem, my advice, since you are on a budget, is to remove it and see if you can free up the gear. You may not need a new starter if you can get the bendix gear moving freely.

Wheel bearing, I don't know about other than they can require special tools to remove on Front wheel drive cars. It seems that not as many members do their own repairs on V70's as on older cars.

Thanks for the replies, the starter was screwed, small gear was chewed right up, fly wheel is on. Boiled down to the gear not engaging properly as well as a battery that was running down.since replacing the starter and battery it is working better but still not starting properly... not sure what to do anymore with it
