Default ABS Module Questions

I have a '99 V70 T-5 and I think my Abs module is bad. I couldn't find exact answers in the forum, but if they're here and I just didn't see them, please let me know so I can take down this thread. Do I need to reprogram anything after installing a new one? Also, is there a write up for how to replace the module?

Also, do you guys have any suggestions of where is the best place to get a module? I've heard of someone getting a kit that allowed you to repair your own module, but I don't know the reliability of that. I've never messed with the ABS Module before this, so it's going to be a learning experience.

Will the car still run fine with the module completely removed? Who's that?

Volvo ABS Control Unit Computer General Information

I repaired mine in the S70 myself; pretty straight forward; the solder joints break on the large pwr connector.

Here is a site that can give you a quick fix, it is not a forever fix but it has worked for me for the last two years. Good luck and I hope it helps you out.

I placed a shim as far down as possible between the control module and ABS pump in my 1998 Volvo 98 S70 GLT. The ABS and Tracks light shut off but it came back on awhile later. Although, I have noticed that ABS and Tracks light does not go on as often. Any explanation for this phenomenon?

From post #5 in this thread:

..the solder joints break on the large pwr connector.

Your shim is tweaking the connector so the broken contacts become connected, but this is temporary fix at best.
