Default Advice for new buyer

Looking at getting a V70 reasonably early next week - would be a R Design D3 geartronic. New from a Dealer with my Land Rover part exchanged (I know I know, but it takes so long to shift cars like that at a reasonable price - can be done but I am doing high miles in new job - hence want the change ASAP)

Some questions for a newbie below - looking forward to the form, been an active member of Disco 3 for my current car.

- I want to connect ipod but not willing to pay £00's for premium sound system as it is mostly used for podcasts etc - so is there an audi in for a 3.5mm jack? If so where is it located? Done this for my Discovery and quality is perfect and a £3 wire sounds better to me than a £500 stereo upgrade solely for this purpose.

- The SatNav is a bit steep, but thinking of getting it. Both for the Sat Nav and the look which makes the car look miles better inside in my view. What else is the Sat Nav screen used for and what extras if any do I get if I tick the Sat Nav option?

- No rear parking sensors as standard on the above spec - is that right?

- Convenience pack is far too pricey at £1500 - and the options I want from there (Dimming mirror and Auto wipers) also steep. Can either of these options be retro fitted if I decide in time to go for them?

- What are the other 'must have' options to consider?

- What are the typical service packages dealers will offer?

- Is the Volvo finance a good deal compared to what's out there? I know the Discovery one you got shafted on residuals over the last few years.

Plan to trawl through the forum over the next few nights, but any advice in advance of this much appreciated.

Very jealous that you are able to buy the D3 (or D5 for that matter) given that no diesel is available here in the US.

I would definitely get the nav system as the instrument panel looks a lot better. I would also get the parking sensors. It is amazing how tight of a spot I can park in using those.

Regarding the ipod connection, there should be a 3.5mm audio-in jack as standard. No need for ipod-specific connector unless you really want it. The jack route is of very good sound quality. Should be located in the center console.

I would get all the options you want up front. It will be much more expensive to add them later. Volvos aren't Land Rovers, which can be highly accessorized at any time. Drove a LR Series II 109 and Disco II for a long time. Fantastic vehicles.

I tend to pay cash so can't help you with the financing questions. However, Volvos seem to hold value better than Land Rovers, at least here in the US.
