Unhappy Alarm needs servicing

Just purchased a Volvo V70 2001 on Y, high miles but looked after. The display on dashboard has just put on a light saying alarm needs servicing and also alarm goes on but no sound. Can anyone advise on how to rectify this without putting in a garage.

Default Alarm service

Hello, Search on the Volvo boards and you'll find instructions on removing the alarm unit from the inside right fender well. It entails drilling out a couple of plastic pop rivets and peeling the plastic fender liner back to access the unit. It's screwed in place so just unplug it, remove it and open it up cleanly to inspect. Change the batteries if you can. Replace the unit if it's all corroded. I've seen a post with great pics-just can't remember which board. What I don't know is if you can have the entire function removed from the car's brain via dealership reprogramming. Kira
