Default Block Heater and Oil Question

Hello, I am a brand new owner of a 2005 Volvo V70 and a brand new member of this forum. The question that brought me here today is regarding an engine block heater. I live in northern Canada and it gets fairly cold here in the winter, so after a quick search on this forum I was unable to find any information regarding the installation of the heater, I hope that someone on here could point me in the right direction to right source for such info. Also, I am wondering if there are any websites that you, the general member, might know of regarding part purchasing. My local dealer charges far too much for simple parts. Lastly, my final question is about the type of oil I should use. The dealer suggested I use Synthetic 5W oil while the warranty manual says 10W would work best for colder climates, what are your thoughts?

Thank you.
