Question Buy a V70 with 112,000 and original timing Belt?

Hello everyone,

I am going to look at a 2002 V70 owned by a private dealer from 90,000 miles to the present 112,000 miles. I am thinking of buying it for a "drive with the dog car". However, he does not know anything about the timing belt being changed in his paperwork. I am hoping to offer under $5,000 (is that fair?) get it to my Volvo guy pronto. Will my Volvo mechanic know, by looking, if timing belt total service is needed?

The general condition and history of the car looks good but I do not want a $600 to $1,000 introduction to the car.

Hi and welcome to the site.

Buying any 10 year old car has real risks and it seems that you know a little about the timing belt being a major one. If they don't have history, just get it done. I usually take needed repairs and needed maintenance off of the price. You can look up the value at www.NADAGuides.com and go from there.

Since members on this forum have owned v70's and I shall be new to that model, should I have the water pump replaced with the timing belt service or wait for a sign of ware.
