Default Check engine light? Can't pass smog? WTF!

Today I went to get my 99 v70 smog checked and apparently the emissions test passed. Unfortunately it did not pass the entire inspection in the end because they scanned the vehicles OBD2 and found code p1054. I live in California and they are very strict about emissions.

What the ****, if my car passes the actual smog test then who cares about a code. At least the people at the shop said they would retest it for cheap once I got it fixed.

My question is, if I reset the trouble codes and then immediately hand over the vehicle to get smog tested, will that be sufficient in blocking the engine code from showing up on their OBD2? Thus my vehicle passes smog?

When I use my cheap $40 scanner and reset the codes the check engine light does not come on for another 15 minutes of driving.

As long is CEL is off when they ck it, you should be good.

BTW; from googling, P1054:

"1054 is a no speed sensor signal from the ABS system."
from here..

...which is strange since wouldn't think that's an OBD2 code...

edit: scratch that; other sites say this is O2 sensor fault; need to research more..

Default Clearing of codes

Hello conor07, I tried that in the State of New Jersey and not enough driving time/miles had elapsed for the engine management system's DRIVING CYCLES requirements to be fulfilled. I've seen a Saab list of the speeds and minimum times through which a car must be driven to quickly teach the computer. It's exhaustive. Most people say it takes 100 to 150 miles of regular driving.
How many miles are on your '99? gdog's finding might be great news for you if it's simply an old O2 sensor or vacuum leak. Kira

HI Kira.

MY car has 120k miles on it. Months ago I put in a used engine with 90k miles on it. AFter that it needed to be tuned by the local volvo mechanic. He put in a new 02 sensor. IM 90% sure its a vacuum leak or something with an 02 sensor. I really hope I can just reset the OBD2, take it back to be smoged and then have it pass.

I had the same experience last week. My CEL is on, and I passed the actual emissions test, but they still failed me. Did you have any luck with reseting the OBD and having it resmogged?

Thanks!
