Concern about V70 tie rod
I have just changed the driver's side tie rod on my 1998 V70 XC AWD. Before removing the old tie rod end, I counted the threads showing beyond the lock nut so that I could maintain my alignment at least until I can take the car to have the alignment checked. However, before fitting the new tie rod end, I turned the tie rod a couple of revolutions without thinking, and so may have made a nonsense of being meticulous about how I now fit the new end.
How is the tie rod attached to the steering rack, inside the boot, inboard of the connection to the tie rod end? When you rotate the tie rod, when adjusting alignment, can it (tie rod, not the tie rod end) be turned infinitely, or it is threaded, and will turning it eventually disconnect it or lock it up within the boot. I am concerned that if it is threaded and not just a rotating connection, that I have no idea how many threads it is away from disconnecting. Can anyone clarify this for me?
