Coolent Smell
Hi je
I recently had a problem with the coolant pipes , that connect to the heater core, leaking on my V70 and it was "relatively" easy to fix (just had to replace two rubber o-rings).
I could access my heater core by removing the centre console lower side cover (turn the "plastic screw" 90 degrees and slide the whole panel rearwards). I eventually ended up removing the glove box as well just to make it a bit easier, but my car is a RHD so yours might be on the driver's side.

Hope this helps a bit.

Heater core is most likely leaking.
You don't need to pull the dash top replace the heater core.
You will have to remove some stuff from under the dash but it doesn't have to come out.
