If you have a check engine or ABS light on that will stop the cruise from working.

I had this problem when I bought my 2000 V70. There is a recall on these vehicles that will cause the car to accelerate and decelerate at will, which is very frustrating when you just purchase the vehicle. But on a good note you can and should call the dealership to see if the recall has been done on your vehicle on the Throttle body. Also how many miles are on it if it is less than 110,000 you need to have your timing belt inspected immediately to see if it is in need of replacement. Volvo states in the book that it should be changed at 110,000 miles but I had mine checked at 80,000 miles and it was in need of replacement immediately. Also if yours is a turbo have the intake hose clamp checked mine broke and it just causes the car to not run and a lot of headaches for a $1.80 clamp. Also if you smell oil smoldering after a long trip it probably is the angle drive or transfer case whatever they call it leaking, anyway Volvo has just started selling a gasket kit for this which will correct this problem. I know this is alot but I am letting you know what to keep an eye on and if these are not looked after will cost you in the long run, especially the timing belt. I also had a front wheel bearing replaced which you can get at autopartsonlinecanada.com for about $200.00 instead of Volvo which quoted me $360.00.All in all we still like the car. Good luck
