Default Cutting out

Good afternoon folks
I am after ideas with a problem please
we have had a v70 2.5t 2007 for over 10 years with no problems 175000 miles
until now
occasionally for no reason when driving along it cuts out and we have to wait a couple of minutes for it to start again, fires up straight away and runs perfect until the next time which can be another couple of weeks
one garage had it for a week ,never missed a beat
Kept happening to the wife so took it somewhere else where it ran perfectly but error codes show petrol pump
garage says could well be this but not sure and perhaps try this
but £800 to replace pump as only genuine part available
car is perhaps worth 1500
we could easily spend more than the car is worth trying different things
can anyone suggest anything, we love the car and certainly don't want to scrap it
any advice would be appreciated
regards
Simon

Aside from codes which point to a worn fuel pump and symptoms which are consistent with a worn pump in a vehicle well old enough to have a worn fuel pump, has anyone taken a pressure measurement?
There's an unserviceable foot long fuel filter in the tank now (if it's a steel tank) so it doesn't clog.
I'd go with the diagnosis you have and replace the pump.

These cars last a long time. If you keep this car for another 4 years the repair works out to be £16.66 per month.
You ain't REPLACING any car for that little money.

While you're at it, throw a little additional maintenance at the old girl.

Keeping her running is way cheaper than buying new or £earning the dark $ecret$ of a u$ed car.

thanks for the reply, I will suggest this to my Volvo man ,
I think we are going for a new pump solution, not much choice really
the car has not missed a beat in th the last couple of weeks

I did some looking around and found a thread regarding our fuel pumps.

A knowledgable fellow mentioned that our fuel pumps are very well made and even with high mileage they rarely go bad.
He suggested examining the Pump Control Module (PEM). They're a little silver box 2.5" square X 3/4" thick...a plug in box.

Mine was flopping around in the spare tire well. I read that they were actually mounted outside through 2004.
I had enough slack in the wires to secure mine with silicone rubber on it's little feet.

Can you get to a junk yard and grab 1 or 2. I say 1 or 2 because these things aren't in computer programs bought by junkyards. Ergo, they're summarily shredded with the car. They might even give them to you.
I learned this when I bought a yaw sensor for a XC-90. It'll be cheap to swap in one of these things first.

Sorry I didn't think of this sooner.
