I have a 1998 V70 that is showing a symbol in the lower right corner that looks like, for lack of a better term an upside down letter y.

It is to the left of the service indicator light.

I cannot see this symbol in the owners manual.

For what is worth, this car was built in belgium and is a 5 speed manual tranny, no turbo.

You must have a car that is not fully to U.S. specs.
That would be the Lamba light(Check engine light)
