defroster turning on when car is off?
Hi! I'm new to the forum and have recently purchased a 2001 Volvo V70 for my wife. The V70 has about 101,000 miles. Thanks for the thread on timing belt which I plan to have replaced very soon!
The problem I'm writing about might not be a problem. I have noticed on certain days that (1), the engine seems to run much hotter than my Maxima's V6 and or my wife's old Expeditions V8, and (2), periodically when the car is parked, nobody in it, the defrosters will turn on.
On our honeymoon a long time ago, we drove our 1983 Volvo DL 2 door a long distance and had to keep the defrosters on most of that really hot trip to keep the engine temperature under control, or risk overheating.
I'm associating the two events together but not sure why this would be. I assume this is some kind of heat release from the engine in our very hot and humid southwest Florida location. We've had a really hot summer and bought the car in the peak of the heat. Or is this just a freak electrical problem that will some day wear down the battery and leave my wife stranded?
I have never noticed another car doing this before. It is not the engine fan - it is definitely the interior defroster fan, which I have confirmed by opening the car and sitting in it to make sure.
Thanks for any help!
