On the 2002 S60 that we have, the message can be turned off by following a few steps.

1) place key in ignition and turn to the first click (accessorries on).
2) Press and hold the trip odometer reset button.
3) Turn the key to the "Run" position and release reset button. It it not necessary to start the car.

Sounds simple but it did not work on ours the first few times. I think the fifth or sixth time it finally worked.

Just to add, you have to hold the odometer reset for about 20 seconds or more. The trip display will go to "0" and then return to the original reading. That is it.

Probably the reason why it took me 5 or 6 tries. Thanks

Sorry, got confused with my Toyota. Here is the reset.

1. Turn the ignition key to position I.
2. Ensure that the trip display is on T1 and shows some miles (not zero). Press and hold the T1 reset button and wait for the odometer to set to zero.
3. Turn the ignition key to position II, and watch the odometer.
4. When the previously displayed miles reappears, release the trip reset button.
