Depress clutch to start
Hi
I’ve a 1999 petrol V70 2.5.
its had intermittent start problems sometimes taking 12 cranks to start.
Its has a new ignition coil, battery, distributor cap, leads and plugs to no effect.
Someone has told me that you need to have this car in neutral and the clutch depressed to start it. Is this correct?
Its going for diagnostics tomorrow.
Thanks
Steve

I am not sure when Volvo added a cranking safety switch. I have a 98 and it'll crank. Nothing is required on mine. But even if there was a clutch pedal safety switch on the 99, it would control cranking, so it would be incredibly obvious.
Thanks for that. It’s been for diagnostics and they can’t connect to the ECU, but it started every time for them.
Touch wood it’s also started every time for me with the clutch depressed.
maybe it’s a failing clutch sensor that has somehow allowed the car to start with clutch out but occasionally doesn’t like it?
