These are great instructions. For those viewing this forum after April 2013, IPD has now prepared a video that shows these steps, and almost makes it worth paying for the IPD light kit. The video is free at
and shows the steps discussed above (with the exception of theM6 stud). If you are going to take out the instrument cluster, might as well change all the bulbs at once.

April 30 update - I just changed the bulbs in my cluster. On Amazon, I ordered a pack of 10 Sylvania 194 bulbs for 6.99 (including shipping) and a Martha Stewart craft bone tool (see video) for 6.67 (including shipping) and three days later have changed all four blown bulbs. Total time, including cleaning out the stuff in the glove box, 90 minutes. That is less time than it would have taken me to drive round trip to the Volvo dealership. Well worth DIY.
