I'm new to this board and looking for help with my inlaws MY00 V70 XC. We took it to the dealer and they are telling us we need a new drive shaft. They are telling me it's gonna be ~1k for parts and labor.

Since I'm new to Volvo, I was hoping for some alternate suggestions for getting the drive shaft fixed.

What type of involvement is it really to change out a drive shaft and what is a realistic cost for DIY type of guy ?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Are they telling you it needs viscious coupling or the drive shaft?They aren't that bad to change.I will try to find out the prices on the parts and the labor times for you.Then you can take it from there.

 

Tech... I was told the drive shaft, but will verify.

Down here in Fla. the driveshaft is $909.34 for the part and 2.1 Hrs labor at $84.00 and hour.

 

The dirve shaft seems pretty steep. However the labor looks entising. Unfortunatly I'm located in NH.
