Default Driveshaft conversion?

I am fairly new to Volvos, I have a 98 V70 with about 180K on the clock. Of course my driveshaft is shot, and so I removed it tonight. If it were up tp me I would just leave it off but my wife feels it will help alot in the upcoming snow.

My question is if anyone has done a conversion with a standard U joint and some type of slip yoke? It would solve my problem and then would be much easier to work on. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I have done it on a Jeep...... that's a little more "crude" though.... seems like you'd have a lot less room to work with. Interesting project for sure though.

I have done it on a Jeep also, which is what gave me the idea. Only going the other direction with SYE. I know there is a lot less space down there and the center support bearing makes it even worse. I am heading to the shop right now to work up the the first CV end, I will try to keep a photo journal to show progress.

Started to work on it, Volvo does not make this easy at all. It just makes the shaft so much more complicated than it needs to be. I am concerned about the extra stuff needed and the added weight as far as rotational. It is going to put more stress on the carrier and transmission output shafts.

We will see. I may need to remake it in aluminum.
