Default Engine cutting-out - fuel starvation?

Hello,
I have a 1998 V70 XC AWD auto with the 2.4 turbocharged engine. Car is in excellent and fully maintained condition. Engine has always started first time and in any temperature (down to -20 here). Yesterday, the engine guttered a bit on starting and then cut out after a few minutes. On re-start it turned several times before firing and catching. Fifteen minutes later, on highway, it cut out again, so I coasted to the shoulder and tried to start it, but it wouldn't fire. Checked under the hood for the obvious and then opened the fuel cap and then replaced it in case of an air/pressure lock. After that, the car started and I was able to drive it two miles before it cut out again. I should add that the fuel pump is working.

My first thought is that this is fuel starvation, perhaps due to a fouled filter. Does this sound most likely? The car was raised on the driver's side to an approx. 25 degree angle for two days last week, when I was changing the main driveshaft - could this have caused tank debris/sediment to move and then block the fuel outlet or filter? Any other suggestions?

My local NAPA lists only one fuel filter for my car. Is there only one filter between tank and fuel injectors? Where are the various filters located? Any information much appreciated - thanks in advance.

Symptoms sound like fuel starvation, like you said. You didn't say if you've ever changed out the fuel filter or if it set any codes (ck engine lite on?).

You could ck you fuel pressure; especially next time it dies on you.. if it's never been done, it's probably due for a fuel pump too... tend to die around 140K mls or so..
