Engine Service Require message + Orange triiangle
Ok...my wife says this keep coming up intermittently...Every time, I went to check...it was off.
Yesterday, it was on all day. I made an appt this morning and it is off.
My mechanic (BMW/VOLVO independent) says he has the software to read the codes...true?
I read somewhere that only the dealer had the software to read these.
He says he can't tell what is wrong when the message disappears...when I try and recall messages it says (0) messages....this doesn't seem right. Why wouldn't it store the msg/code?
I did not take it in, but this bothers me because we are about to go on a trip to the SF Bay are from San Diego....and I don't want to get stuck.

go to an auto parts store and use their OBD2 scanner. just plug it into the OBDII port under the arm rest. you should be able to read the codes even if the light isn't on, because the computer's memory stores them for a period of time.
