Default engine sputters at stop light

I have a 1998 Volvo V70. Lately it has taken on a new quirk- when sitting at a stop light (with my foot and the brake and in drive) it sputters, almost stalls, then goes back to idle. This happens only occasionally and at random.

My thought was:

Bad gas
Fuel Filter
Fuel Pump
Crank Sensor

Anyone else experience this?

First try cleaning the throttle body and idle motor and see what happens from there.

Thanks, Tech.

Could you offer any tips and advise on how I might do that. I've heard running seafoam through a vaccum hose is a good way to clean the throttlebody. I've not heard of an "idle motor".

The seafoam is only good for the valves not the throttle body.
You will have to remove the hose for the throttle body and spray some carb cleaner on a rag and wipe it out or remove the throttle body and spray it out.

Also remove the idle motor and clean with carb cleaner.

Then you can run the seafoam through the motor to clean the valves.
