Default ETS light is on.

2000 V70, 108,000 miles. This morning the ETS light came on, but only for a while. Now it's off. The car was driving fine when light was on, although I experienced some subtle surging for the first few minutes.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Peter

Default ets light

elecronic throttle system or something, there is a square metal box on your inlet manifold with a throttle butterfly in it, remove the pipe to it, get some carb cleaner and a toothbrush and clean the throttle butterfly, if you put the car on a drive up ramp this should be easier, and do from underneath it saves taking it off, otherwise ignore it untill it becomes a problem. do so at your risk but i found this works ok for me.

try this but also put some thin synthetic oil on a Qtip and work it in around the shaft and body. There are o-rings in the might be dry and need some lube. Also make sure your battery is "Good", if you haven't replaced in a few years do it now.

I've taken apart an 01 ETM and contrary to popular opinion the throttle position sensors were almost perfect and showed no signs of being an issue. But I have seen photos 99's that had definite wear problems, so ? I'd try cleaning lubing and replacing the battery first.
