Fitting torque rod bushing to '98 V70 XC AWD
Hello, I am fitting a new torque rod bushing to my V70. Got the part at FCP Groton/FCP Euro, and thought it would be a quick, simple fit. However, I'm not sure which way round the bushing goes, as the bearing tube on the bushing, through which the support bolt passes, is slightly offset. On each side of the bushing there is an arrow, and there is a letter 'B' beside the arrow on one side but no letter marking on the other. Can anyone tell me which way round the bushing goes? Also, do you have any tips for fitment, as the bushing will be very difficult to press into the mount? I have considered greasing the body with silicone grease or cooking oil, assuming I shouldn't use axle grease, and tapping it with a hammer, or rigging something with a bearing puller so that I can pull the bearing into place through the mount.
Thanks for any help.
Thanks for any help.
Just looked at mine and can't see an arrow, but the shorter side of the offset is straight to the rear. When you say "each side of the bushing", it leads me to believe that you have a poly bushing which should be a hand fit as opposed to the factory one piece one which needs to be pressed. Do not use any petroleum based lube if you feel lubrication is needed-it should not be. You may need to use a floor jack to slightly shift and/or lift the engine to line up the bolt with the bushing and the holes in the mount.
Hi Mikeori - thanks for your reply. I meant the left and right side of an OEM one piece bushing (so I will need to press it in) which I bought from FCP Euro. I understand now that the arrows have to point up, with the 'B' on the driver's side, and that it can help to turn the bushing forward by 15 degrees before pressing it into place. I've also learned that putting the bushing in the freezer overnight can cause it to contract very slightly, making it easier to fit. As far as lube goes, I've been advised that WD-40 can work, but that is petroleum-based, as far as I know, as is Vaseline, which I might have been inclined to try. What would you use? Silicone grease, soapy water?
