Default Flashing Red Light

There's a tiny light right in the center of the dashpad near the windshield. I just realized it flashes ALL the time. I only drove the car at night for the first time today. What is the thing and how do I make it stop the flashing. I suspect something to do with the secuity system or remote. I do not have a remote for the car yet. Any advise greatly appreciated.

If you just connected the battery lock and unlock the car with the key and see if it stops flashing.

If not then must be codes in the system.

Nope, that didn't do it. Where would the codes be? Are they pulled via the obd port or is this yet another "Dealer Only" thing. I just paid $42.00 to have my SRS light turned off. Yes, I did disconnect the battery to do some instrument panel work. That work triggered the SRS light problem. Car is a 98 V70R. My code puller was used today to clear the P0410 code until I can fix the air injection system.

Your scanner most likely won't communicate with the Control module.
Open the window and lock the car. Give it a couple of minutes. Then reach in and pull the Hood release and see if the Alarm goes off. If it does cycle the key in the door then try starting it and see what happens.

Well, it's pouring rain today so I'll continue with some questions. I suspect the alarm system in the car had some big issues. Is the siren/noise-maket located towards the center of the firewall over the space where the turbo-charger heat shield is located? I have something there that looks like a part was removed, a stud on a fixture and the fixture wired into the loom. I've got a feeling the alarm/immoblizer system in this car is probably broken. I had two keys made up at a dealer. The keys don't say Volvo on them. They do work though but only cost $43.00 for both. Should these keys have a transducer in them? Anyway for me to determine if these keys are any good transducer-wise? I have only one original key I got with the car and I don't know its status either. I don't want to tape up the light as it's also part of the AC system. I will pay around with what you previously mentioned as well as diconnecting and re-connting the battery with doors locked/unlocked and various other combos to see if I can reset the system. I did drive the car home at night when I bought it and don't recall this light flashing, hard to miss, so I think at one point I was in fairly OK shape.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.

It is a 1998 they didn't use the Chip keys then.
The peice under the hood should look like a horn. The outer peice might have fallen off. That is pretty common.

GLAD as hell to hear about the non-chip keys !!! First good news I've heard in a bit. Monsoon rains today so no experiments conducted. I'll be sure to let you know how all the monkey business works out with the alarm.

I've tried just about everything. No Joy! The car starts and runs fine but the light continues to blink around the clock. Nothing seems to make any difference at all in the lights' behavior. Dealer time ??
