Default Foul Oder from cabin vents

First time Volvo owner, first time posting.
I just bought a '99 V70 GLT from a dealer. He said the evaporator was replaced before the car went on the lot. When the AC is on max everything is good, when I start turning the temp up so I don't get blasted with very cold air I get a foul oder from the vents. When the heat or defrosters are on I get the foul oder that can bother your eyes and it smells bad. It doesn't smell let antifreeze though. The dealer is going to take a look at it. Do any of you have any ideas what this could be?

Hello Dan,

Welcome to the forum, I hope you find it helpful & enjoyable.

As to the odor, if you don't smell coolant, it may be due to FODs around or under the cabin air intake, cabin air filter needing replacement (if so equipped), or something is stuck in the ductings (dead mouse?).

I was going to say the evaporator may be leaking, but then it was replaced recently, and I am not sure if R134a had any odor/irritability effects. When you turn the defroster, the A/C compressor kicks in (which I find annoying). I can only assume something is stuck around the heater core (dead mice?).

Wait till other S70 members or Moderator Tech (the top-dog of the forum) reply to you, as I'm an 850 driver and am not too privy to the S70.

I hope the problem gets resolved soon.

I would think if they just replace the evaperator they would have replaced the filter as well. But because I always do that doesn't mean everyone does.

I would let them look at it.

Do you have the recirc on when you smell it?

JPN an Tech, The dealer replaced the filter before I bought the car. I just got the car back, The same dealer replaced the heater core and the oder seems to be gone. I just put 100 miles on it and i picked up a very light scent from the oder but I'm sure it's fixed and I shouldn't have any other trouble with it.

Thanks for the help.
