Default head gasket

I own and drive a 2000 V70 and love it.
I just bought a 1998 V70 with a blown head gasket.
I have put a head gasket on my 16 valve 740.
Any differences I should be careful of?

If you have done a 16V head you should be able to do it pretty easy.
I would suggest to try to make a tool to lock the cams so you can remove the VVT pulley. I mark it before removing it.

OK, you got me.
What does VVT stand for.
I didn't lock any cams on the 16 valve.

Variable Valve Timing. It is a funny looking pulley. Some have it on the Exhaust cam and others have it on the Intake cam. The VVT pulley has a T-50 screw in the center.

But you might not also have VVT. 98 was a funny year I have seen only a few with it. Also there is 2 different types of timing belt tensioners for that year as well. If it does not have VVT then you should just be able to remove the cams without removing the pulleys.

OK, thanks, I didn't have any of that on my 16 valve.
So if I have VVT you say I should lock it?

Yes you should lock the cams then remove the VVT pulley. Check it out and if you have a VVT pulley let me know and I will tell you how to mark it with the cams locked. This way it will be cake to install it. There is a special way you are supposed to install the pulley because it is not keyed. It is more confusing trying it their way I came up with a different way.
