headlight assembly removal '98 V70 XC
Both lenses are cracked and reflectors are dull - presumably from water and dust intrusion - over a few years. Can I get by with just replacing the lenses - or should I replace both entire headlight assemblies?
Also, either way I need to remove said assemblies. Can anyone provide instructions (is bumper removal needed, etc.) and suggestions for such removal, etc.?
Best,
CB

Welcome to the Forum.
You can definitely replace just the lens but it is a lot more work and not for the faint of heart. You will have to remove both head lights, wrap them in foil and then heat them in the oven to loosen up the old sealant. Then, you will have to pull the lenses off, scrape all the old sealant out, apply new sealant and then put it all back together.
It isn't that hard but you need to make sure you do it correctly or you will destroy the housing.

fcpgroton,
Thanks for your prompt reply.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but being a '98 I thought that each lens is held onto its respective reflector dish by metal clips and that the water-tight seal is maintained - without any glue needed - by the pressure of said clips on the rubber gasket/seal placed between the lens and the dish. True?
Also, I'd like to know if I can avoid replacing the reflector dish by simply washing off the cloudy grit off of the reflective surface with, say, soap and water and maybe a soft rag to avoid scratching the said surface. Is that possible?
