Default Heater/AC fan

My heater, air conditioning fan has quit and I have the orange flashing lights on the re-circulation and off buttons. I've checked the fuses and they're good so it's either the switch, or the fan itself? Which would you think is most likely?
Also are 850 switches and fans the same as 1999 V70s? As I know of a couple of 850s being broken for spares..

Oh and just to note, the fan does (occasionally) decide to work! When it does it sounds fine and works as it should. No evidence of anything being worn or loose..

Ok, I've had a poke around and I don't think the fan itself is the problem! It's actually running all the time at a very slow speed, not making any nasty noises but the fan speed slider switch isn't doing anything, except switching off and on.
So would I be correct in suspecting the heater fan resistor and if I am, where is it?

I would say resistor is bad.

Hey, mine just started doing the same thing! Did you try tofix it yourself? Actually, mine runs quietly for about one second then the fan quits completely and the lights begin to flash. Did it turn out to be the fan or the resistor? How the heck do you get the shelf under the glovebox out without breaking the clips? What else has to come out to get to the fan? Where is the resistor?
