How difficult would it be to replace the heater core myself? My dad said I would probably have to take apart the whole dash to get to it... yes? no? Wished I was rich so I could just pay the mechanic to fix stuff for me.

I did it on my wife's 99V70. Not difficult. remove glove box. remove panels on passenger and driver side of center console.
be sure to crimp hoses on engine side of firewall. heater core slips out driver side.
there is a web site out there that goes through it rather comprehensively.
