Default Hissing brake's

I have read many post's on hissing brake pedals, my question is, My brake pedal does hiss
i have seen a little bit of brake fluid in my garage.. would a split line make the pedal hiss
My brake resovior cap never seems to get a good seal either!!
i'm not going to be happy if its the master cylinder.
if so i'll have to get the "Wallet out" as tech always quotes LOL

If you hear Hissing then the Booster is bad.
Are you sure it is Brake fluid leaking?

You may need Both the master and booster.

i'm assuming it's brake fluid, it kind of was at the same time the brakes started hissing
it might be power steering fluid, the funny thing is when i accelerate
the hissing goes away, or when i touch the pedal slightly.
With the post you did on brake booster replacement , does that pertain
to my model of v70...because Vadis make it look like a major operation, removing cross
members and the lot...is there a easier way.. how many hours for a volvo tech to complete
a brake booster replacement..

You do have to remove the top crossmember where the upper torque mount is.

But you can do it in about 2 hours or so.

Sorry I forget where i made the post but if it was for either a S60 or S80 then it will be the same.

tech after about 3-4 minutes of driving the hissing sound stops, only to return again
when the ignition is switched of, or when the car starts up..is that consistant
with a failing brakes booster...
Thanks

P.s.Enjoy your cruise.

Went to volvo they comfirmed, bad brake booster,
The Volvo tech reckon's he needs to drop the sub frame, and drop the motor to get
brake booster out, i asked if he could get it out from the top he said he's tried and the
bolts on the booster are too long and it only goes as far as the block and it hits.
could there be a difference between LHD & RHD vehicles, that makes the booster harder to remove.

Thanks

P.s. Glad to hear you had a good time, it's good to get away from the kids from time to time.
you find yourself, even if only for a couple of days or so...

Is yours right or left drive?

I have done a ton of Left hand drives and never pulled the subframe.

Hi, Its RHD I checked my copy of Vadis, it looks like about 4 hours or so for a Volvo
Tech, Sub frame needs to be dropped you have about 4 inches between the booster and the block, any way emission service required came on, i asume that
it because all the hissing has set of the brake sensor, car going in for timing belt, all cam seals,
crankshaft seal, brake booster, serpy belt.
This is the last money i will spend on this Volvo, Maintenance costs are ok.....
breakdowns/mechanical failures **** me to tears!

V70 2.4t (soon to be a Jap car driver again if this thing cost me too much more money!!)

My brakes used to hiss when i first started my car. Now instead, before i start my car, my brake pedal is really hard as if it has been pumped with the engine off. My ABS and DSTC messages will appear after about 10 minutes of driving. There is no other difference in the feel of the brakes. Any ideas what might be causing that?

Bad brake booster Uncle.

I have only done them left hand drive cars. They are easy to get out with a little moving it.

v70 2.4t, Who is your Volvo dealer ?
Do have a good indy specialist that might be able to rebuild my ABS Module? Are we the only sydney V70 drivers on here?

I have this code....CEM-1A5F Communication with ABS control module Signal missing
and also hissing brakes and my brake pedal is hard when i get in my car as if its been pumped with the car off.

Are these related? Which should I address first?

The bad part is you should really address both of them.
They are both pretty bad.

Uncle, I go down to Southern classic cars in the woolongong,
The Volvo Service Manager is a top bloke, his name is Darren.
There is a place in Mascot that does Volvo's they are NRMA Approved,
i have found him to be a bit short & rude....
Darren at Volvo may be able to point you in the right direction?
Give ABS Brakes a call they way also be able to help with a rebuild
As Tech said, you should address them both soon !!
ASV do used parts, give them a call, they have stacks of used volvo
parts with warrenty.
The ABS module should be easy, but the booster
is involved you need to drop the sub frame to lower the motor.
Mine is in the shop right now, get it back Monday.
Hope this is of help.

tech, I have brought this back up because my 2002 V70 is doing it also. It sounds as if it is a vacuum leak, so if the booster fails, you loose power brakes but not brakes themselves. Correct? Or does the vacuum leak affect other systems? I know in the older Mustangs everything runs off of one vacuum system.
