Default Hose on stock air box ??

I'm constructing a DIY heat shield / CAI for my 98 V70R. There is a hose conected to the top of the stock air box that goes to an air pump I think....?
What do I do with this hose when the air box is removed? What does EST do with this when their heat shield is installed?

Here is a picture:

I have never seen that on anyones Volvo before. I may have heard about it before but never seen a picture.

Is it just like that? Nothing attached to it on the outside? Anything attached to it on the inside of the airbox?

I wont say don't worry about it, but if nothing is attached to it then why bother you know what I mean.

Hopefully someone else will chime in here on this.

There is a hose attached to it that goes beneath the engine somewhere....It's the air pump. I'm am unclear what to do with it now that the stock air box is removed.

You are right about the air pump connection. When replacing the stock air box I would expect there'd be a provision for re-connecting that hose someplace. If not (mind you, I'm just suggesting here) you could probably rig something where the hose would have some sort of small filter thing attached, something that would at least prevent water from being sucked in. The Air pump setup generates a P0410 code when it fails. That code means open wallet, disgorge entire contents and replace pump. The pump's $300, SAS valve $100, some kind of relay, about $75.00. Basically protect the pump against sucking water.

Yes it is for the Air pump.

If all else fails drill a hole a little smaller than the hose and shove it in there.

I haven't had a chance to look at the 02 V70 I bought for the wife yet but I bet it is similar to my 95 Impala SS. I removed the stock air box many years ago and installed a K&N mini filter right onto the stub on the air pump. That PN I believe was 1062; they also make another filter 1030 which was supposed to slip into the hose coming off the air pump (if you didn't remove the hose). I am pretty sure the 1062 fits a 3/4" nipple and I think either filter runs about 20 bucks. Just as a side note my SS is 11 years old with over 222,000 miles and the original air pump still works fine.

Yes, I believe EST provides a small filter to plug the hose. Pretty simple, just get a breather filter approx the size of the hose and you're done.

you can let the hose hang man... I put a huge K&N Filter on mine and the hose is the compressor bypass tube. It vents the gas back into the airbox to keep it quiet. I like the slight whoosh noise, not too loud unless you are above 8psi. Also with the K&N I noticed a lot of spool up noise from the turbo (I know, obviously) ... so let it hang. you'll be fine.

It does not vent air into the airbox, it does exactly the opposite. It takes air from the airbox and puts it into the exhaust. You are correct in that you don't really need to do anything with it, but to be on the safe side put a filter on it to keep junk out.
