hot weather is tough for a real swede
Hi Guys
I have a 1998 V70 for 2 years now (which I love), I am getting into the second summer with this car. And this is my problem which is a mystery to me. during cold weather in winter the car is just fine, but as soon as temerature hits 70 or 80 or higher these days or in summer I get a lots of rattling, staggaring and caughing. It is most apparent when the car waits at the red light. Also my ipmpression is that it is somewhat assocaited with the A/C, since the rattling get real bad when I turn A/C on. Can anybody help me and maye tell me if this is expensive, I do not want it to cost me another $2,000.
Than you in advance for your helpful comments to help me.

Might be the A/C compressor going bad. That would account for the noise. It might also be putting the engine under enough load that it is causing it to run badly, which makes sense as you state that it is worse when stopped, which is when the engine is idleing.
Make sure all fasteners are tight on the A/C compressor. Make sure the idle boost is functioning normally.
And lastly, make sure to follow scheduled maintenance. Neglect is the most popular cause for problems. As to the coughing problem, check:
- Induction components (air filter & throttle body)
- EGR valve & lines
- PCV components
- Fuel system components; fuel pump & pump relay, fuel filter, etc...
- Ignition components; plugs-plug wires-distributor cap & rotor
- Etc...
I may have missed out other components to look for. Wait for other members' replies.
