I need help! V70 cross-country
I am looking at two Volvos: 1998 V70 XC w/ 98k miles, and 2000 V70 XC w/ 92k miles. Both are in decent cosmetic condition. The '98 had had a rear axle bearing replaced and recently a warped rotor replaced. Maintenance history is mostly unavailable but clear carfax report. The '00 is said to "run rough" and the salesman at a Toyota dealship claims he doesn't want his reputation attached to this car (I think he is just biased). Does anyone have an opinion on these two cars? Or perhaps know of similar issues with these years? Thanks for any help!

Well, I have no direct knowledge, but based on the responses to some of my earlier posts (as I am shopping as well)I have heard that the '98 was volvo's best year for the V70, and that the 2000's and 2001'shave some kinks and transmission problems, so my vote would be for the '98.
good luck!

Ill second that. being a driver of a 98 s70, I have run into my fair shard of problems from high miliage (213K) But my car starts everymorning and every night, only electrical stuff is lights going out(easy to replace) Other than that brakes, and other basic stuff that goes out over time. 98 ftw

I also run a 98 V70 that I pinnish on a daily basis and theengine continues to run very smooth after 190k.At Idle it's not the quitest engine and many other 5 cylinder cars are the same. I want to clarify however, it's not roughsending vibrations through the car, it just sounds at times a little less smooth than a V6 fromsay... Toyota. lol. Once on the road however, it should runlike silk. If not, don't touch.
