What is the rpm running at? What has changed lately? Is it possible that AC is on and causing a slightly higher RPM?

i never used air con because i hate it,it is running at about 900 rpm when placed in drive and also when placed in neutral it seems to go even higher.

what should be a normal range of operation?

Yes, that sounds high. Anytime you put the defroster on the ac comes on, you have no control over that.

Not sure what would make these cars idle high other than if there is a vacuum elbow torn or loose. Hopefully someone else will come in and help.
